Final Year Project: Design, Development and Implementation of Portable Capacitive Electromagnetic Flowmeter
Designed and developed a portable capacitive electromagnetic flowmeter focused on non-invasive fluid flow measurement, integrating principles of electromagnetic flow sensing, capacitive detection, analog signal conditioning, and embedded system design. The project aimed to explore an innovative approach to flow measurement by detecting flow-related electrical signals and processing them to support real-time measurement in a compact and portable form factor. The system involved studying electromagnetic flow measurement principles, implementing capacitive sensing techniques, and exploring methods for signal acquisition, conditioning, and processing to obtain meaningful flow-related data. Particular emphasis was placed on understanding the interaction between sensing mechanisms and electronic circuitry, improving signal interpretability, and integrating the different hardware and embedded components into a unified measurement system. The project provided practical experience in instrumentation engineering, sensor interfacing, electronic circuit design, and embedded systems, while addressing the challenges associated with developing a portable and non-invasive measurement solution. The project also strengthened my understanding of measurement system development, from theoretical concepts and sensor principles to hardware integration and signal processing. It offered valuable hands-on exposure to the interdisciplinary application of electrical engineering in instrumentation and industrial measurement systems. The project was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Mojeeb bin Ihsan, Director of MERL Pakistan, providing an opportunity to explore practical engineering challenges at the intersection of electronics, instrumentation, sensing technologies, and embedded system development.
